Because of the Credit Crunch Many Skiing Operators Will Be Slashing Their Amount of Catered Chalets

Thanks to the down turn ski reservations fell this season.

Despite of acceptable pre season sales and fantastic snow fall.

This fall in skiers follows on from 6 winters of continuous growth within the snowboarding industry, and the number of holidaymakers contracted from 1.15 million in 2008/9 to 850000 last season.

Partly due to skiers giving their annual snowboarding break a miss, whilst other skiers who would generally have two skiing holidays, only took the one.

A fall of 15% was experienced by the independent travel sector with several cheap airlines slashing the no. of flights to several destinations.

Some tour operators also saw the reservations going down by 15%.

All the same, the leading companies share stayed at 72% and France retained its position as the favourite holiday destination with 37% of ski holidays.

Due to this many ski operators lowered the no. of luxury catered chalets they rent this coming season.

Catered ski chalets especially will see a reduction in skiers as a luxury catered chalet costs more for the tour operator with regards to employees and rent if it is unsold.

Therefore it’s unlikely that we shall witness the ski deals Chamonix that were up for grabs this season.

Although costs are probably going to to rise, costs are unlikely to rise much.
