Mac support has a new Windows Home Server
Microsoft released just recently their current test version of their home server product. It will be known for now with codename Vail, the said server is now capable of managing and doing backups for Macs. Microsoft also released the most current version of the new Aurora small business server, apart from making an announcement of the Vail’s availability last August 16.
The plans for updating Aurora were announced last month during the Worldwide Partner Conference. Aurora will now let businesses to take responsibility of the tasks. Fine examples are printing server functions on a local server and tapping into Microsoft’s hosted Web Services. The business server will also be used in Mac as it has Mac support. Meanwhile, the Windows Home Server is specifically created to handle multi-computer systems at home and do backups. This mostly refers to multi-Windows PC homes.
Vail and Aurora are both coming from the same platform, which is Windows Server 2008 R2. However, Vail only allows up to users unlike Aurora that can accommodate up to 25. But this fact does not say that Aurora is the better version of Vail, because there is something that Vail has that Aurora hasn’t. Vail is very much capable of doing media streaming, which is also known as Media Center integration.
You can now download Windows Home Server and the Small Business Server betas from the Microsoft Connect Site. Windows, on the other hand, had not yet announced any definite date of release for the ultimate versions of either Vail or Aurora.
