Dedicated Server Crashes, Affects CAT Exams in India’s Three Regions

The dedicated linux servers intended for the Common Admission Test (CAT) in three regions of India has reportedly crashed last weekend, which caused a ruckus among thousands of students who had to wait for the system to be repaired or were sent back home and wait for further developments.

The CAT has been implemented to eleven regions across the country. This makes it possible now for students to take the exams online without using the usual paper and pen.
About 1,300 students from the Tricity areas arrived in three examinations set up in Indo-Global College of Engineering, Rayat and Bahara College and Gyan Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology. About a hundred students missed the exams. In the coming days, the test organizers will have to deal with over 13,000 students who are scheduled to take the tests in the aforementioned locations.

The technical malfunction resulted to the delay of exams at the Gyan Jyoti center by an hour. This means that the students were told to stay an extra hour to make up for the delay. Aside from this, the computers and dedicated servers were reportedly have to be restarted multiple times. This was due to the passwords by the students not being accepted by the system. In the Indo-Global center, the test started thirty minutes while for those at Rayat and Bahara center, one of the computer labs won’t work at all and more than forty students were told to go home after more than two hours of waiting. Their new schedule has not been given yet.
