Everybody wants their young ones to be brought up well educated to give them not only a good vocation, but to give them a good apprehension of the planet so they can make the most of their lives. Yet there appears to be this eternal conflict of separating your youngsters away from their playthings or the gogglebox in order to force them to get on with their homework. In schools it seems that the fun is withdrawn from studying, so it’s not really a shock that kids spend their time daydreaming in school. There is an alternative to this problem though. Instead of this false dichotomy of studying and playing, it’s far more effective to mingle the two up and make it a pleasure to learn.

Youngsters will study much more when studying is simply good fun, OR if they see a pragmatic purpose as to why they’re learning something. The former is often a lot easier than the latter.

Here’s an example: tell the kids to think of a birthday cake, and 5 friends. How much cake ought each friend get? Tell them to draw the cake, and cut out a slice for each person. They don’t even know they’re studying the concept of fractions.

These days, it’s now understood that once you introduce a subject to a child in an enjoyable way (e.g. math), youngsters are a lot more likely to take an interest in it later on. If the alternative is to just force them to attend a lesson, face them toward a blackboard, and tell them to take heed of the teacher waffling on, the chances are you’re inducing daydreams rather than encouraging interest in the subject.

What sort of toys ought you to buy your youngsters? These days there’s a massive array of toys. Always take heed that children love to play with almost anything, even a cardboard box! From alphabet blocks for children to party games for children, so long as the focus is on learning and encouraging your kids to become more inquisitive (which boosts self-learning).
