Know Velocity

When playing the game of online poker, having lots of poker online chips is a wonderful thing. Not only does it mean you have a lot of money, but it allows allows you a wide variety of playing style options. You can play aggressively, if you like, and “bully” the table around with your big stack, win lots of blinds with big raises, or any number of things. That said, just because you have a lot of poker chips doesn’t mean you should play stupidly and throw them around with wanton. I was playing some online poker this week, and sat down at a medium limit table where one fellow had a significant amount more chips than than everyone else. Whether he accumulated them during the course of play or simply bought in with a lot of money, I don’t know. Anyway, this guy was raising every hand and betting at every pot and really not playing with any strategy. In fact, one hand he made a big raise, and someone went all-in over the top of him, and he called. I’m figuring both of them probably have high pocket pairs. Well, the one guy who reraised all in did. The other, big stack fellow turned over an 8-3!? The moral of the story is, just because you have a lot of chips and can raise with anything, doesn’t mean you should. If you play judiciously, your chip stack will just keep increasing, rather than shrinking.
