Poker Player Profile: the Super Donk

There seems to be a distinct hierarchy of player types that one encounters at a Texas Holdem poker table, who, by and large, can be fitted to a pretty standard ‘profile’ wherein you can learn to attack them based on expectations. Many of these kinds of players don’t read poker books, are gamblers, and will fall into leagues of method that often have distinct ways they can be combated or played back at.

The most commonly noticed style, and perhaps the kind that are less prevalent by percentage but much more obvious when they do appear could be known as the super donk, though often these players like to be known as ‘true gamblers.’

These guys usually claim to play a lot, seem to have enough to rebuy as much as possible, and really hate to fold a hand. No matter what you raise in what position, it doesn’t really matter to them, they are going to see the flop, and if they get a piece of it or a draw, it’s going to take some kind of insane slurp of poker gods to get them to lay it down.

These poker players tend to accumulate a lot of poker chips quickly if they don’t go broke, and will then use those chips to beat other players into playing for all their money, but in the long run, most of the time, they will leave broke.

Some players, in these instances, like to attack the players as much as possible, to take their AK when they get it and try to nail the player to the wall when they often will still need to survive what is almost a coin flip for all their money.

This kind of strategy can work if your luck holds up, but if you hit a bad card, you can find the donkey running off with all your money when they call you with 5/7 suited against your AQ and hit a pair on the turn, while you fail to improve.
